Brits abroad- Bulletin two

Adam Blythe got bad news from the doctor this week, he’s suffering from tendonitis and has to sit out this weekend’s Vlaamse Pijl. A couple of weeks rest should see him right, ready to benefit from all the hard work that he says brought on the injury in the first place.

Dan Fleeman is gritting his teeth in the flatter stages of Paris-
Nice and looking forward to the hills, “And the sun,” he says. The prologue time trial was shock to Dan’s system and as an early starter he got the worst of the weather. He finished outside the first 100 but in typical chirpy style, afterwards he pointed out, “I was leading for 57 seconds.”

Dan Lloyd took a fine ninth place on the dusty roads of Tuscany’s Eroica. This race is fast becoming a Classic as it is held on an interesting route that includes some off-road sections, perfect for a former mountain biker like Lloyd. The winner, Thomas Lovkvist from Sweden, is a former European junior mountain bike champion. Mark Cavendish battled through the tough race to finish 24th. Lloyd will ride the Tirreno-Adriatico which starts Wednesday, March 11.

Steve Cummings won the King of the Mountains in the Giro del Capo in South Africa. The Tuscan- based Merseysider also won a stage, as did the
other Barloworld Brit, Chris Froome. Tom
Southam riding for British team Rapha Condor,
who made their presence felt in the race, finished
fifth on one stage after taking a fine third overall in
